Stampin' Sisters in Christ Challenge 48 . . . by design

Happy Sunday stampers! Its time for another challenge from Stampin' Sisters in Christ and this week's lovely and super talented hostess is Grace, who selected this verse, Psalm 127:1a "Unless the Lord build the house, they labor in vain who build it."

And her challenge this week is for you to use an image of something that is "built" using a set of plans ... a house, church, school, automobiles, even a bird house...anything that would be built according to a set of plans.

You can see the rest of the design team's wonderful creations on our home page and read more about our sponsor this week, Wink, Wink Ink, you can find their web site here http://www.e-junkie.com/winkwinkink.

I chose to show a quilt under construction. That's usually the state of being of any quilts I have attempted--under construction--I've actually only finished one in my life! Quilts are certainly designed according to a set of plans or design and quilts are one of those beautiful handmade items that can make a home warm and cheerful.

I know Grace is going to have some great thoughts about her chosen verse, here are mine. No matter how many lovely quilts you might have, what sort of interior decorating, the size or type of the home, unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. That means to me the verse isn't talking about a physical structure, but the heart of the home. What sort of foundation is your home built upon?

When my son came home from college, before he set out to work at church camp this summer, he brought home a stack of black and white classic films from the library. One was Citizen Kane. The character in the movie built an enormous empire, palatial homes, had every type of possession a person could materially desire, but died alone, misunderstood, sad and miserable. Contrast that with King David, who started out a humble shepherd and ended up king of Israel. When you read his life story, there is a lot of drama, a lot of sad times for David. But he built his life, his foundation, upon following the Lord, upon his love for God. And the bible tells us that David was a man after God's own heart.

Wow! That statement is overwhelming in a sense. Who wouldn't want that said of them?

Building your 'house,' your life, according to God's principles doesn't guarantee happiness in an earthly sense, but it does provide you with inner peace and the assurance that when the Lord is in charge, it will all turn out right in the end.

This card also fits the current Papertrey Peeps challenge #11 to force yourself outside of your comfort zone. I love the color yellow, it is so cheerful but I struggle to use it well. I also almost never use Ocean Tides, (pssst! don't tell anyone but I think its rather ugly . . . so I combined them! Sooooo not in my comfort zone, but I think it turned out all right. I followed the past Mojo Monday sketch 147 and it was a great way to use the PTI quilt blocks. Thanks for looking. Hope you can play along this week with Stampin' Sisters in Christ.

I agree about the ocean tides...that's the blue that I never know what to do with. After sorting through paper last night, I have a lot of those colors!
But this is a very pretty card, and I like your use of the quilt blocks...and the layout is great!
Thanks for the encouraging words today also!!

Well said Peggysue! And, of course, in God's most deliberate and blessed way, this week's scripture and all that has been written about it are something I NEEDED to be reminded of!

I love your card... it's beautifully done! Very serene.

I, too, have many partially worked quilts. That is one of my goals... to get back to quilting. I love cards, but I love quilts, too!

Hugs,
Lisa

can I just say WOW? The card is amazing (was trying to think about what is out of my comfort zone but totally didn't think color) and then your "lesson" along with it. Great! Perfect, I am sure I am not the only one who appreciates your thoughts. Thanks for sharing.

I love this card for all three challenge, Peggysue! (I {heart} Ocean Tides, but I'm with you on yellow--so beautiful & cheerful but not one of my go-to colors.) You've used it beautifully here--in fact my favorite part is your yellow shading on your sentiment half-circle!

Love it! I think ocean tides is an ugly color too. My package still has not been opened. You have made it look good here though. I may have to start using mine now too.

P.S. I forgot to say that my first quilt is still not finished and I have been working it for over 10 years now.

Wow - for someone who struggles with yellow and doesn't crave Ocean Tides - you really made something beautiful with both of them Peggysue! I love the almost 'stained glass' quality of your quilting blocks. I also love your thoughts on building a house ... and try to remember that it is also a wise woman who builds her house - while a fool tears it down with both hands. (So many subtle dreadful ways to do that too!)

This is beautiful PeggySue!

It's been a pleasure getting to know you but I am leaving Ocean's 11 - just not enough time in the day. Stay creative and stop by and visit me sometime! Oh, and I'll see you around the PTI boards :)

Love this card--you did such a fabulous job with the yellow and the quilt squares work great with patterned paper. Funny how colors affect people. I had the same problem with turquoise--like it but struggle when using it on my own cards. I do love Ocean Tides though--always think of it as kind of a neutral that goes well with anything--used it a lot for 'winter' designs!

Hi Peggysue! Oh I love your quilt! I too struggle to actually finish them, though I have done several for others, my own seem to stay unfinished for ages! Love the card and love the words you shared today! Your thoughts were right in line with what I was trying to say! I'm so sorry to be so late getting to comment but you know I've been away and without internet and so on. I am finally getting caught up and moving on to this week's responsibilities! LOL! Also... thank you from the bottom of my heart for the absolutely GORGEOUS card you sent me from my QFTD!!!! I just adore it and want to frame it on my wall!!!! You are such a sweet and valued friend!!! Blessings and hugs, and prayers for GOD's leading in your plans for the upcoming move!!!! In His time and in His way... it will be done!
