Make it Monday -- Framing

Good evening! Today's Make it Monday challenge on Papertrey is by Laurie Schmidlin and the challenge is framing sentiments. I played with a few frames before I remembered this retired (I think) Spellbinders fancy frame, which I thought was a nice accompaniment for the brushed bird. I chose bright colors to be cheery for a friend facing cancer treatments (or perhaps another friend...haven't quite decided on the recipient) and tried to keep it simple. My last card was way too clunky and heavy.

I am enjoying the Brushed Birds set, but I probably should break out of using the exact same bird each time. It is just so much fun though playing with color schemes!

Mother's Day

This is my card for Mother's Day. I haven't worked a lot with blue lately and I've missed the color, so I decided to see what the Rubber Stamp Tapestry cherry blossom set would look like in blue. Its funny that despite owning at least ten shades of blue I didn't find the exact look I had in mind.

Friendship Umbrella

I just found out last week that my friend Karolyn is posting a challenge every Thursday on her blog, a Twisted Thursday sketch challenge, and this card is for S2GSC5. I find sketch challenges the easiest, probably because its like following a recipe, the layout is all there, you just have to fill in the pieces! :) Its a sketch challenge with a twist and in this case the twist was to add some embossing. I used the SU background stamp Dots and Daisies and embossed it in white on the apricot, then used light colored copic markers to color in the daisies. I like how well the flowers in all three stamp sets coordinate when they were released at different time. The little bitty flowers are fom a stamp in the Pocket Full of Posies set, I colored them in and then cut them out individually. YOu need very, very sharp little scissors for that! The vellum kind of reminds me of a raincoat lining and of course, you need a button to keep the coat closed. Fun sketch, now I just need to find a good source for inexpensive large square envelopes and I can mail this to someone! Thanks so much for visiting.

Sweet birdie

Can you spot the background paper in this post? I think this is my favorite of the three I created, just because the colors are so happy and bright! Although I like the aqua too. . . 

This kind of showcases an alternative way to use the background paper you create. Instead of as background the paper becomes the focal point, using the Spellbinders nestability to cut out a sweet little bird. 

This card and the one below use sentiments from a Clear Dollar Stamp set called 'Whatever.' I think it is going to be so versatile!

A friend loaned me her Manhattan Flower die from Stampin Up and I had to try it out. I think it makes a nice backdrop for the bird. I used a piece of carefully hoarded vellum from a retired SU Candy set to tie the colors together. I think it was called Candy.

Comfort

It has been a while since I have had time to stamp.  We have had truck issues, which aren't worth talking about save to say they are finally over! Yay! 

Today's card is for the technique lover's challenge on splitcoast stampers, this is TLC212. Claire or waltzingmouse in Ireland generously shared her technique to create a beautiful knotted ribbon frame.  Here is her blog, check out her beautiful creations. 

Ever since I received this set, Clear Dollar Stamps Christian Sympathy, I've wanted to create a card using the saying about God's comfort within the Spellbinders bird die. When I went through a dark time in my life, many years ago, I clung to Psalm 57:1b, "In the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast." I usually like the NIV version of the bible, but for psalms and Isaiah and a few other books, I really like the King James version, it is beautifully poetic. So in this dark time I would picture myself as a little bird, hiding under God's wings, fully protected and comforted.  So this saying seemed so fitting for inside of the bird, tucked under God's wing. 

I used the SU Such a Tweet wheel on the brown cardstock with SU vanilla and then Irridescent Ice EP over it, so it shimmers nicely, you just cannot see it in this photo. I also sewed seed pearls on the ribbon knots and the ribbon was just a lucky find in the bottom of my sewing box. Thanks for looking.
